Latino Nursery Art

Latin Baby is proud to announce that it is now carrying original nursery art paintings by self-taught artist, Lilia Estrada. Her beautiful paintings are created with acrylics on acid-free, heavy, cold press paper and measure 11" x 15". They are unframed to allow you the freedom to choose one that complements your nursery decor.

Lilia Estrada was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Mother of three sons, Lilia found her style as a painter in 2003, while working on a colored pencil drawing of her youngest son Anthony and his cat Velcro. Lilia has participated in many art exhibits throughout Dallas including the Dallas Museum of Art. Her work has been featured in magazines, including the cover of the nationally known magazine, Latina. Lilias' native style is a reflection of her love of folk art.

Treasured Flamenco Doll...in Felt?

¡Ole! Check out this cute little FeltPeople Flamenco Dancer from Beesocks that I found on Etsy. She is only 10" tall and handcrafted of layered felt. At first, I felt inspired to try and create something myself, but my fingers hurt just thinking about trying to cut out such tiny pieces of felt. Although, the end result is fantastico, no?

I can see this being a really fun activity for los niños this summer - just break out the felt and let their imaginations take over. If they are not old enough to use scissors, try cutting out an assortment of shapes ahead of time. I generally have some premade shapes that I have cut which the kids use to create faces, animals, plants, houses, comida, etc.

I can certainly imagine this little señorita being a treasured favorite of any little girl....and maybe their mamá? If you'd like to purchase Macarena (as I secretly call her), click here.

Start the New Year in Style...

I love these silk crib sheets by ProudTots. Made of 100% crepe silk, these flat sheets are the best natural fabric for kids bedding. It is naturally hypoallergenic, and thereby perfect for babies who may suffer from asthma or allergies. Silk also draws moisture away from the skin, and is resistant to mildew and odors. And, of course, it is great at insulating the body from cold and heat. These sheets are machine and hand washable - a very important requirement for any baby product!

ProudTots also carries silk duvet and pillow sets.

So support a Latina-owned company by checking out these and other ProudTot products by clicking here.

Traditional Originals?

If you are looking for a classic children's gift with a Spanish touch, check out these fantastic heirloom-quality set of 28 Spanish alphabet wood blocks available at Magellan's Toy Shop. This fantastico set is complete with Ñ, CH, LL and more. Each block features four alphabets, numbers in Spanish and a side with animals and their Spanish names. Made of basswood they come with two embossed sides, beveled edges and non-toxic inks.

Need a baby shower game? How about having each guest take a turn stacking a block and having them tell what they think is an important building block for life. The winner is the last person to successfully stack a block before the tower falls - not the person who topples the stack.

Or, for a Spanish baby shower game version, try having each guest pick a block and name a (baby) word that contains that letter - i.e, pañales for Ñ, botella for LL, etc.

Also, these blocks are great for decorating a Spanish baby shower, and afterwards, the mother-to-be gets to keep the blocks!

A fantastic find for only $34.50!
